15 Minutes of Chaos

Every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6-9, Blair has his MCAT prep course. I usually get home from work a little before 5 so I can get him something to eat before he heads out to his class. I didn't get home until 5:30 today so I just heated him up some leftovers which he had to scarf down, I kissed him goodbye at the door then he ran off to the car so he could get to his class on time. I went back downstairs and started cleaning up his plate and I saw his cell phone still sitting on the table. I ran out the door to catch him before he drove off, and I thought he saw me because he started slowing down....well, that's just because he had to stop at the stop sign. I sprinted as fast as I could to try to catch him, my shoe flew off (I had one slip-on flats), I twisted my ankle and he still didn't see me...he turned the corner and drove off. I turned around and was at the end of our street with only one shoe and a hurt ankle, yet I still ran home to grab my car keys, hoping I could catch up to him in my car.

(Yes, as I am writing this I am wondering to myself, "What in the world was I thinking?!" Did him not having his cell phone for 3 hours really matter this much to go through this chaos?)

I grabbed my other shoe and my keys, ran to the car and in the mean time stepped in a huge puddle. I drove all the way to where his class takes place (which I just knew the general area, I didn't even know exactly where it was) and saw his car parked out front! Yes, I found it! I ran into the building just about 3 minutes after his class started and I thought I would still be able to get it to him. I talked with the receptionist and explained what had happened and I'm sure she was wondering why I went through all this trouble to bring him a phone that he couldn't even use during class...I was wondering the same thing myself. She checked his classroom and the door was already closed so I couldn't even get it to him.

She said that she could find him and give it to him during their 5 minute break so I wrote his name down on a sticky note and gave it to her with his phone. Then, finally, I went home. I was planning on exercising tonight but my ankle is still hurting.

I can't wait for Blair to call me or talk to me when he gets home and ask what I was thinking. Was it worth all this trouble? Probably not! But I was just so caught up in the moment and I know how much he hates to leave his phone at home so I was trying to prevent him from being upset about leaving his phone. I guess I can use this to show Blair how much I love him! I went through all this trouble for a cell phone! But needless to say, I got home and have just been relaxing for the last little bit, hoping my ankle stops hurting. Hopefully I can just think more clear next time and remember that just maybe a cell phone isn't worth the trouble.
