Weekend Adventures

The last two weekends have been so fun! Last weekend Blair and I went up to Burley, Idaho to go to a family reunion with all of Blair's Mom's family. I honestly wasn't super excited to go because there were going to be a ton of people there, and probably 85% of them I didn't know. Well, it turned out to be wonderful and we are so happy we went! We got there Friday evening and went to Uncle Steven's house to eat dinner and hang out with the fam for a little bit (we had perfect timing and got there after Grandma talked about the family's ancestors and genealogy...but don't tell grandma I said that).

Instead of pitching our tents in the backyard for the night, which is what several people did, we went over to my Aunt Judy's to sleep (only about 10 minutes away). It was great to see Judy, Alan, Alisha, Eric, and Jan and Bill and their kids. We enjoyed talking for an hour or so before heading to bed. It was so nice of Judy to let us stay with her and I really enjoyed talking with her that evening. She always reminds me so much of my dad and she is ALWAYS so upbeat, positive, and friendly and makes me feel so special and important. Thanks Judy!

Saturday morning we headed back over to Uncle Steven's for the day. The entire family had a volleyball tournament that lasted a few hours, then later we all played in the river, went on super fun tube rides, thanks to Kandice, played football and some other games, and ate lots of good food and treats. We all left that evening with faces the color of ripe tomatoes, especially Blair. His skin was so red it looked like it was painful to even smile. But he's already started peeling and is feelings better.

It was a great weekend and it was nice to get a quick break right before finals started. We are glad we went and won't hesitate to go to the next family reunion.

Blair went out on the jet ski towards to end of the afternoon and it ran out of gas on him. Here he is stranded in the river.

Derek and Jared heading out in the canoe to go get Blair. Thanks for rescuing him guys! (Yes, these are the only two pictures I had from the whole reunion...I left my camera in the car and forgot about it until the end of the afternoon)

My 2nd weekend adventure was two weekends ago. Blair and I went into the canyon with Syd and Jordan to have a campfire and roast marshmallows and starbursts (yeah, try it sometime, it was delicious!) and make smores. Jordan was in charge of getting some wood to bring up and got lots together and put it in the trunk. Well once we got up the canyon we weren't sure how long we were wanting to be there so the boys brought about half of the wood to where we had the fire.

The fire was starting to go out but we all wanted to stay longer so Blair and Jordan took the flash light (the only one we had) and went to get the rest of the wood from the car, which was about 4 minutes away, walking. I don't know what we were all thinking, because after they were gone for just about 2 minutes Syd and I hear the bushes moving behind us. We thought someone had been watching us and had waited until the boys left to jump out. Well, of course that wasn't the case, it was just two small girls being paranoid. But when we jumped of our chairs and looked behind us there were 3 raccoons!!! That seemed to be almost as bad as a man!!! We didn't know what to do, and the fire was giving off less light than a night light in a bedroom does, so Syd tried beating a stick against the ground and I started hissing at them...we did not succeed, as the raccoons came closer and closer to us, and about now the fire went out, yeah perfect timing.

We didn't have any other ideas and were really freaked out so we turned and ran! We ran to the car where Blair and Jordan were and told them what happened. Well, again we did not succeed in relaying to them our terrifying experience, because they just stood there and laughed at us and said they wish they could have seen it! How rude! And it didn't help that when we got back to our spot there were no raccoons to be seen anywhere and none of our food had been eaten. I don't think they believed our story.

The night didn't get much better for me. After Syd and I got calmed down we all just hung out for a little while longer. As we gathered our stuff together to leave we noticed that these huge sprinklers were on in the field we had to walk through to get to the car. We all got sprayed a little as we were crossing a bridge but it wasn't too bad...we thought we'd been spared from the big impact. Well, as we were all running across the field trying to dodge the rest of the sprinklers I got hit, and I got hit hard! And yes, I was the only one to get wet. I guess I just didn't have luck on my side that night. But it was still fun and we will definitely do it again!

Look at how wet my pants are! I had a sweatshirt when I got hit in this picture you don't even see it all, but boy was it bad!

Okay, so this last part isn't related to any weekend adventure or anything but, I haven't posted this yet. I got home from class one night to these flowers on my door step. They are from my relief society after finding out about my miscarriage. It was so nice of them, especially considering that I hardly know anyone since we've only been in this new ward about 3 months, but have been out of town almost every other Sunday. They were beautiful and lasted a long time!

  1. That was so much fun you guys! Even the dodging sprinklers part. And I think the best part of the whole trip was watching the re-enactment of the attempt the scare away the raccoons. Classic.
